New lifesaving equipment on Port Bridge

The provision of two new life rings and boxes on either side of the Port Bridge in Letterkenny have been welcomed following concerns raised regarding the difficulty in accessing the previous lifesaving equipment.

Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh raised the motion asking that more visible and more accessible life rings be provided at this area after being contacted by a concerned citizen who advised that the rings at the location were badly located and very difficult to access in the event of an emergency.

“I am pleased that the council have addressed the issue now, and the new rings are easily seen and easily located. The provision of this life saving equipment will also be revisited and reviewed again when the new road works are completed.

“I would also ask everyone to remember that a lost life ring can mean a lost life, therefore such equipment should never be interfered with or vandalised and should only be used in the event of an emergency,” Cllr Kavanagh added.
