Murphy secures Donegal a draw in pulsating encounter

Donegal 1-20 Kerry 1-20

Michael Murphy landed a last gasp equaliser as Donegal drew with Kerry in a magnificent game in Croke Park today.

Donegal were victorious in their first Super 8s game against Meath, but they were weakened for the trip to Croke Park with Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher, Neil McGee, and Paddy McGrath all missing out.

The first half proved to be entertaining fare, and Kerry led by 0-10 to 0-9 at the interval, with Ryan McHugh, Michael Murphy and Patrick McBrearty all on the mark for Declan Bonner’s side.

Donegal started the second half well and moved a point ahead, before Paul Geaney netted a goal for Kerry in the 44th minute.

That was a blow but Donegal were back in front by the 52nd minute when Michael Murphy drilled home a penalty, and Eoin McHugh then had a goal disallowed.

The game was nip-and-tuck after that and the sides were level heading into the last two minutes of normal time, but then Jason Foley fisted Kerry in front.

However, Bonner’s men hit back with quickfire points from Oisin Gallen and Michael Murphy to go ahead, but the lead changed hands again after scores from Geaney and Paul Murphy.

Donegal went in search of a leveller and they won a free in the 76th minute. Michael Murphy stepped up and landed the equaliser.

Donegal’s next Super 8s game is against Mayo on Saturday week in Castlebar.
