Miss Donegal Ciara Duffy hosting special Halloween fundraiser

By Diarmaid Doherty

RECENTLY crowned Miss Donegal – Letterkenny’s Ciara Duffy – is putting her preparations for the Miss Ireland finals on hold this weekend in order to host a special Halloween fundraiser.

Ciara is organising a Halloween Fancy Dress party on Bank Holiday Monday and all proceeds from the event at Letterkenny Community Centre will go towards Pieta House.

It’s a charity that holds special significance for Ciara and her family as she lost a close family member to suicide three years ago.

She says she wants to give something back to Pieta House as a thank you for all they have done for her family, and so many others in Donegal.

“It’s a wonderful organisation and the help that they give so many people here is so, so important,” Ciara said.

Working as a personal trainer at Uforea Fitness in Letterkenny, Ciara knows the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

“A person’s mental health is important too, just as much as their physical health,” she said.

“We all want to lead a healthy lifestyle and people are always saying how good they feel when they are eating or training well.”

The 24-year-old from Woodlands will represent Donegal in the Miss Ireland finals in Dublin on Saturday, November 4.

She said she was thrilled when she was selected as Miss Donegal.

“It’s been a brilliant experience so far,” she said.

“I never dreamt that I would be selected, but I’ve loved every minute of it.

“So once I was crowned Miss Donegal, I decided that I could use the experience to do something for charity and I came up with the idea of a fundraiser this Halloween.”

Ciara will host the children’s Halloween Party on Monday, October 30 from 1-3pm and there will be loads of entertainment, treats and prizes.

There will also be a raffle on the day and all proceeds from the event will go to Pieta House.

The cost of entry is €3 per child and adults €6 and everyone is welcome.
