McGroddy and Downings eye Junior final victory

Downings player Keelan McGroddy says his team are keen to bounce straight back to Intermediate football by winning the Junior ‘A’ Championship Final against Convoy on Sunday.

It was a shock last season when Downings were relegated to junior football after losing a play-off to Naomh Ultan in Magheragallon.

On reflection, McGroddy says they had been flirting with relegation in previous years and eventually they were caught out.

They have regrouped over the last 12 months and are now keen to bounce back straight away.

“We were very disappointed to go down last year but on the day we didn’t deserve to beat Naomh Ultan as they where the better team.

“It was just a matter of time as we were in the relegation play-off three years in-a-row but things are starting to turn now at the right time.

“We want to get back up as soon as possible. The longer you’re down there the harder it’s going to be to get back up.”
