The scam is believed to have occurred in the past number of days and the matter has since been reported to the Gardaí.

In a bid to prevent people from falling victim of the ongoing scam, Fr O’Doherty posted a warning on the Clonleigh Parish Facebook Page.

The post which was signed by Fr O’Doherty read, “It has been brought to my attention that emails, purporting to come from me, are circulating.

“I understand these emails are people for gifts or gift cards.

“Please do not respond if you receive one of these requests as this is a scam.”
