Lifford coffee morning to support people with disabilities

A FUNDRAISING coffee morning to support independence for people with disabilities across Donegal will take place in Lifford today.

The event, called ‘a cup of care’, is being hosted by RehabCare Donegal which supports more than 800 people across the region.

Funds raised will support the organisation’s mission of enabling individuals with disabilities to lead independent lives and pursue their goals and ambitions. The coffee morning will give those attending a chance to connect, share stories and support the cause.

Newtowncunningham local John James Lindsey has attended the RehabCare Day service for more than 11 years.

He said: “I attend the Centre every day. I always have a good laugh with staff and friends and keep busy by taking part in all the activities. I had a great summer going on trips to places I have always wanted to visit and the highlight was a trip to Belfast.”

The Donegal Cup of Care coffee morning will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 20, at RehabCare Lifford Resource Centre, Finn Valley Enterprise Park, Letterkenny Road, Lifford.

The RehabCare Day Service in Lifford provides support to 30 adults with a variety of different needs through a person-centred approach.

Individuals attending the service access a variety of programmes such as horticulture, health and wellbeing, woodwork, arts and crafts, Irish, and computers. Individuals have also recently been involved in the set-up of a local Wellness Cafe in Lifford.

Gráinne Fogarty, Director of RehabCare, said: “The demand for our services continues to grow, and we want to continue to provide the kinds of services that make a real difference in the lives of the people we support, which is why we are asking for support. Every day our staff support individuals, sometimes in the most challenging circumstances and none more than the challenges they have faced over the last three years. We are asking people to come along on the day for a cup of coffee at our Donegal services or donate online.”
