THE work of a charity which provides a vital health service in Donegal will be highlighted at an event in the county next week.
Blood Bike North West provides a free out of hours service to the service by transporting blood and other supplies around medical facilities.
Some of the group’s volunteers have been invited to speak at the next meeting of the Swilly Sisters Shed, which takes place on Monday, October 6, at 7pm in the St Vincent de Paul Centre in Rathmullan.
A spokesperson for Blood Bike North West explained more about the work they do.
“We provide a vital, free-of-charge medical transport service, ensuring urgent medical supplies reach those who need them most.
“From life-saving blood and chemotherapy treatments to critical lab specimens and donor breast milk, our dedicated volunteers work around the clock to support hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, and families across the region.
“We operate out-of-hours during weekdays and offer 24-hour coverage on weekends and public holidays, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Our service is entirely volunteer-run and funded by generous donations, allowing us to continue making a difference in our community.”
A bike run in aid of the charity was held at the weekend and organisers have thanked everyone for their support.
