Letterkenny family say thanks by raising over €20,000 for charities

A LETTERKENNY family have raised over €20,000 as a thank you to the services that are providing cancer care to their dad.

Organising a special charity swim at Marble Hill beach, the Kelly family were delighted when over 150 people gathered to brave the icy waters of Dunfanaghy.

The past year has been tough for the family after they had to deal with the devastating news that their much loved father Dermot was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

With no signs of any illness, Dermot’s tumour was discovered when he underwent scans during a routine dental appointment.
Over the past number of months, Dermot has been receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital in Dublin.
Due to the fact Dermot is not allowed to drive, he has been availing of the services of the Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital oncology bus to take him to and from his appointments.
The money raised from the fundraising swim will be split between The Friends of St. Luke’s charity and the Friends of LUH.
