Upon arrival, fire services extinguished the fire and made the area safe.

The scene was then preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí today confirmed that no injuries were reported following the blaze and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.

Thankful that nobody was hurt in the incident, Cllr Gary Doherty commended all emergency services who attended the scene last night.

“Anything could have happened.

“We could be waking up today dealing with fatalities or serious injuries.

“I commend all emergency services that were on scene last night for their quick response,” he said.

With substantial damaged caused to bar, which is ran by the Brennan family, Cllr Doherty hopes the building can be saved.

“There is significant damage done to the building and done to the roof.

“It does seem to be the upper floors of the building that were most affected.

“We have to let the authorities carry out their investigations to see what the state of the building is and the conditioning of it.

“It remains to be seen whether the building can be saved but we would certainly hope it could be,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cllr Doherty said everyone in the community has the Brennan family in their thoughts at this difficult time.

“The thoughts of everyone in the community are with the Brennan family.

“In the days, weeks and months ahead we will be offering our support to the Brennan’s in any way we can.

“It is a difficult time for them at the moment, it is absolutely heart breaking what has happened to them and what has happened to their business and their livelihood.

“Once they begin to plan ahead, any support that is needed, the community will be right behind them,” he said.
