THE inaugural Aer Lingus flight from Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn has landed in Dublin this morning.
23 passengers were on the aircraft. It has a capacity for 50 passengers on the scheduled route and total seating for 70 passengers.
The passengers for the early morning flight included solicitors, a lecturer, cancer patients and two students. The flight to Dublin took just 35 minutes. The first passengers were greeted on arrival at Dublin Airport by Transport Minister Pascal Donohoe.
He is travelling on the return flight to Carrickfinn where along with a number of dignitaries he is due around 12.30pm. The scheduled flight will leave Dublin at 7pm this evening.
Airport management see the new service as a major boost to the economy of West Donegal.The Public Service contract runs for two years. Aer Lingus will run the flight twice daily return to Dublin. Fares are from €35 one way.
