In Their Thousands are headling the Goof's Gaff charity concert in aid of the RNLI and Irish Cancer Society.

NEXT Friday night, May 4, popular Donegal YouTube phenomenon Goof’s Gaff presents an evening of top talent at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, to raise funds for two charities.

Goof’s Gaff’s is a YouTube channel that has offered talented artists from the North West a chance to record a live video and go viral. The concept has proven very popular and well-known and rising stars of the music scene have taken to the novel idea.

The man behind Goof’s Gaff, Alan McLaughlin is bringing together several of the artists who have appeared on the online show to perform at a very special concert and DVD recording to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society and the RNLI.

Headlining the event are In Their Thousands who have since forming a year ago gathered a very loyal following. In Their Thousands’ first EP was released to acclaim at the Earagail Arts Awakening festival on February 3 in Rathmullan House.
 
The EP is the first of a quartet of four track EPs to be drip fed by the band in 2012. On the night they will treat the audience to tracks from both the current and forthcoming EPs.
 
Also appearing are the ever popular Heads of State, who always bring the house down with their singalong harmony driven material.

They all hail from the Finn Valley and Letterkenny areas. The band’s songwriting style combines the use of vocal harmonies and acoustic based instrumentation, wrapped up in catchy melodies that are sure to grab your attention and get you singing along.
 
Guitar maestro Liam Deery is also appearing. One fan said of Deery ‘his music is mind-blowing as far as I’m concerned. He has a unique approach to playing the guitar and uses the whole instrument as opposed to just limiting himself to the strings.

In songs like Wolf or Spacetrain he actually makes a wolf’s howl and the sound of a train coming along the tracks and speeding up. To sum it up I’d describe his music as pieces of art rather than songs’.

There will also be some young talent with a lot of ‘old influences’. Leila Keeney from Letterkenny immerses herself in Delta Blues, Bluegrass and Old time while Simon McCafferty is young solo artist from St Johnston, he gathers his style from the late Chet Atkins. 

Also appearing on the night will be some visitors from Derry. The McBeth Sisters are much talked about in their native county and their folk/country style delivers bold and soulful harmonies are influenced by artists such as Glen Hansard and Fleetwood Mac.

Doors open at 7.30pm and punters are asked to give a charitable donation, so arrive early to avoid disappointment and more importantly give generously for two very worthy causes.
