AS THE In Their Thousands Germany tour continues we have come across a fantastic review the Donegal band received in the regional newspaper, Giessener Anzeiger.

On Tuesday night the lads from Dooey, Ballyheerin and Glengad were performing at the Ulenspiegel in Giessen and the journalist from the German newspaper was very impressed.

For the second leg, including this concert, In Their Thousands have been joined by German artist Stefan Honig from Duesseldorf who is opening for them on a number of shows.

We have done our best to give you a small insight into what the German newspaper’s reviewer had to say the Giessener Anzeiger’s readers.
‘Music lovers at the Ulenspiegel in Giessen got a very pleasant surprise on Tuesday when they got to see In Their Thousands. With their very personal and varied music, the Irish quartet made an excellent impression with the audience.

‘From the very start as the band stood amongst the audience and performed without any amplification (we are guessing it was Effort For The Waste) they made it clear that tonight the audience at the Ulenspiegel would get to hear a different sound that usual.’

The review also stated that it was not easy for the writer to identify what style of music the band was playing. He noted there was a lot of harmony work in songs that contained elements of pop, rock and country music.

‘These Irish are not ashamed of putting everything that fits into their songs to touch the hearts of their audience members.’
Special mention was given to Declan McClafferty’s ‘raw Irish voice’ which was also ‘extremely sensitive and vulnerable’, always sounding like he was ‘telling the truth’.

The writer said In Their Thousands make music that is ‘truly innovative with their sovereign synthesis of rock, pop, Irish folk, blues and some unidentified ingredients’. It is safe to say that the Giessener Anzeiger was very impressed with In Their Thousands who have another full work on tour in Germany. www.intheirthousands.com

Hat-tip to tour manager Andre Janssen for sending us the review.
