Improved safety measures at two Letterkenny schools

IMPROVED safety measures close to two Letterkenny schools are in place.

Concerns had been raised that hedging along the one-way system between Scoil Cholmcille NS and the gates of Loreto were blocking the views of motorists and pedestrians.

Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly approached Donegal County Council’s roads supervisor about the concerns.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Cllr Kelly said the removal of hedging has now made the crossing safer for all road users.

“Pedestrians have a clear view before crossing the road and vehicles and road users now have a better view of pedestrians and pupils waiting to cross this crossing.”

Regarding a safety rail in place at the crossing, he said: “I am glad to announce the contractors have taken this on board and are going to install a hand rail in the coming days.”

He thanked the contractors and also the roads supervisor of this project for taking his concerns and the concerns of the residents on board and carrying out the very important safety improvements.
