FINN HARPS 2-1 UCD (Harps win 3-1 on aggregate)

Ollie Horgan’s team held a slender one-goal lead going into the second leg against UCD after winning at Belfield last week.

However, the students drew level on aggregate when Jamie Doyle headed to the net in the 60th minute.

The home side were struggling, but against the run of play, they levelled on the night when Nathan Boyle slipped the ball under UCD netminder Conor O’Donnell in the 76th minute.

The visitors pushed forward late on in the hope of finding the goal they needed to bring the game to extra-time, but that meant they left gaps at the back.

Harps exploited those gaps in the 89th minute, when Tony McNamee drove out of the back and found Josh Mailey, who curled the ball expertly into the top corner.

The Ballybofey men will now face Limerick over two legs after they leapfrogged Drogheda United in the Premier Division, following their win against Sligo Rovers, and the Louth side’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

The first leg of the play-off against Limerick will take place at Markets Field on Monday, with the return leg in Finn Park next Friday.
