DONEGAL retailers, Pat and Marie McClafferty of EUROSPAR Gortahork are set to appear as extras on Ireland’s much loved TV soap Fair City, after winning the opportunity to star in the show at the national EUROSPAR and SPAR Retail Convention.

Tom Hopkins, who plays the role of Christy Phelan, owner of SPAR Carrigstown, was in attendance at the convention where he made the announcement that Pat and Marie had been selected to assume a walk-on part for an episode which goes to air next Thursday, April 4.

Pat said: “We’re delighted and excited to be appearing in Fair City, flying the flag for both Donegal and EUROSPAR.

“Our Gortahork store boasts some of the very same features as SPAR ‘Carrigstown’, such as our Tim Hortons Coffee offering, so I might just share some of my insider tips with Christy.”

To celebrate the appearance customers visiting EUROSPAR Gortahork on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5 can enjoy a free Tim Horton’s Coffee or Tea.

In 2011, BWG Foods, owners and operators of the SPAR and EUROSPAR brands in Ireland, launched a partnership with RTÉ Television following an agreement to open a SPAR store on the set of Ireland’s most popular home-grown soap Fair City.

EUROSPAR Gortahork opened its doors to the local community in October 2012 with a special appearance from Donegal’s All-Ireland winning brothers, Eamon and Neil McGee.
