Glenswilly to meet Naomh Conaill in Round 4

THE meeting of Naomh Conaill and Glenswilly is the glamour tie in Round 4 of the Donegal Senior Football Championship after the draw was made on Sunday evening.

Glenswilly have three wins from three games after beating Dungloe on Sunday, but now they face a tough test against reigning champions, Naomh Conaill.

The sides met twice last year, drawing once before Naomh Conaill prevailed in the last eight.

A place in the quarter-finals is likely to be at stake when they face off next weekend.

The lie of the land is somewhat uncertain as the Glenfin v Sean MacCumhaill’s Round 3 match was postponed following the sad passing of Gareth Martin.

That game has now been re-scheduled for Wednesday night in Pairc Taobhoige at 6.30pm. Both teams have two points at the moment.

It looks like there will be something at stake for all senior teams next Saturday. Every game must be played at the same time of 5.30pm. The top four go straight through to the quarter-finals. The next eight will play in preliminary quarter-finals, and the bottom four will have to make do with relegation play-offs.

Kilcar have won all their matches and they will take on MacCumhaill’s looking to cement their spot in the top four, while Aodh Ruadh are three from three too and they will play Glenfin.

Gaoth Dobhair got back to winning ways on Sunday and a victory next week against Dungloe could see them reach the top four if other results go their way, while the Rosses men aren’t quite safe yet either.

Milford have no points to their name, but all hope isn’t lost yet if they can beat Ardara and get favours from elsewhere. St Naul’s and Killybegs have lost all their games as well but they play each other next week, and could yet get out of trouble.

St Michael’s got their first point in Round 3 when they shared the spoils with Four Masters on Sunday but the draw hasn’t been kind and they will now entertain St Eunan’s who are eyeing up a spot in the top four.

Four Masters now have three points and are looking good, but they will get another tough match against Cloughaneely next week. The Falcarragh men have a decent points difference and that should help them avoid the relegation play-offs.

In the Intermediate Championship, Termon lead the way with three wins from three games and they are through to the quarter-finals.

Malin, Buncrana, and Red Hugh’s all have five points and are through, while Naomh Columba and Downings have two wins from three games and are well placed.

Bundoran, Naomh Muire and Gaeil Fhánada all have two points to their name and will be sweating going into the last round of fixtures next Sunday. The top eight go through to the quarters, and the bottom four play in the relegation play-offs.

Bundoran will host Naomh Brid next Sunday, Naomh Muire are home against Buncrana, while Fanad take on Termon.

Naomh Brid have no points and with a poor score difference, they look destined for the relegation play-offs.

Letterkenny Gaels have one point and they take on Burt, who have no points at the moment, next week, and both sides have work to do to make the last eight. All games in the Intermediate will throw in at 3pm next Sunday.

In the Junior ‘A’ Championship, Convoy had the big win of the weekend as they defeated Moville and they look likely to top Group B, while last year’s finalists Carndonagh look like they won’t make it through to the knock-out stages after losing against Naomh Ultan.

Naomh Conaill and Na Rossa have both got five points after three games and will battle it out for top spot in Group A of the Junior Championship.
