Gardaí to conduct Operation Slow Down this Friday

GARDAÍ will conduct Operation Slow Down as part of their ongoing efforts to make the roads safer this Friday, December 20.

This comes as speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of collisions, serious injuries and fatalities on our roads.

A garda spokesperson said: “Despite regular reminders and enforcement efforts, we still detect hundreds of drivers exceeding speed limits every day.

“National Slow Down Days are about more than enforcement – they’re about saving lives.

“By driving within the speed limit, you’re reducing the likelihood of a collision and the severity of injuries should one occur.”

Gardaí are asking motorists to play their part by checking their speed before setting off and regularly during their journey, to remember that speed limits are maximum not target- adjust for weather, traffic and road conditions and to take responsibility for the safety of yourself, your passengers and others on the road.

A garda spokesperson continued: “Our message is simple: Slow down, save lives.

“Together, we can prevent unnecessary tragedies on our roads.”
