Clearly, James O’Donnell’s other pet, Frida, is also not camera shy. This picture was taken in Falcarragh.

FALCARRAGH photographer James O’Donnell is soaring to new heights of success as he gears up to showcase his work stateside at the prestigious Florida Keys Island Fest.

His journey is intertwined with inspiration drawn from his beloved pet dogs Iggy and Frida.

They have served as loyal companions during his photographic ventures across some of Ireland’s most breathtaking locations.

“It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity,” shares James.

“Judy Hull, the executive director of the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce in Florida, stumbled upon my work online and was captivated by my scenic Irish photography featuring Iggy and Frida. The festival is set to take place this Saturday and Sunday.”

Given the short notice of the invitation received back in January, James had to swiftly organise a GoFundMe campaign to meet the associated costs.

“I’m immensely grateful to those who have rallied behind me in support,” he said with heartfelt appreciation.

In addition to his impressive photography collection, James plans to showcase a variety of Donegal products at the festival.

Among these offerings are Silkie Irish Whiskey, An Dúlamán Gin, a hand-knitted Tory Island jumper, Folklor Candles, and a Donegal Herringbone tweed cap by John Hanly & Co.

Recently, James received acclaim from an unexpected quarter as the Aerospace Corporation in California sought permission to use one of his photographs.

In the image, Iggy is set against the backdrop of a rare cloud phenomenon known as Kelvin-Helmholtz, characterised by its distinctive billowing wave pattern.

“This extraordinary moment occurred off the coast of Falcarragh in April 2020, and the image quickly gained viral traction across the internet,” James recounts.

“The Aerospace Corporation intends to use it for educational purposes and during briefings.”

Looking ahead, James anticipates an upcoming exhibit at the Milwaukee Irish Festival in August.

He expresses his gratitude to sponsors Silkie Irish Whiskey, The Sligo Southern Hotel, and The Rusty Mackerel, while also extending an open invitation to potential new sponsors.
