A FORMER Donegal schoolteacher charged with 110 child sex offences is facing an additional 21 charges.
The man, aged in his 80s, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday.
The man, who cannot be named at this time, sat in the body of the courtroom as five of his alleged victims sat opposite during Monday’s brief hearing.
The alleged offences occurred in the 1970s and 1980s in north Donegal.
Detective Garda Jonathon Gallagher told the court that a further 21 charges had been added, but said there are no further charges pending.
The accused is being represented by solicitor Patsy Gallagher, who told the court that his client is going forward on a signed plea.
Mr Gallagher said the case was a “complicated one” of an historic nature which has been “going on for some time”.
“There has been a lot of work done on this and there is a substantive file.”
Mr Gallagher said his client was “a man of a certain age” and called for the matter to be expedited as quickly as possible.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said that there is currently a publication order in the case, forbidding the accused to be named at this juncture.
However, she added that this was not immovable, and added that she would like to hear from the alleged injured parties in the case on this aspect of the case going forward.
Garda Sergeant Gerard Dalton said Gardaí would canvas this and the case was adjourned until May 12, 2025.
