On Saturday night a Letterkenny songwriter’s latest song will be performed at the 2015 National Pan Celtic Song Contest in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow.

Brighdín Carr’s song Arainn Mhór will be performed by Letterkenny teenager Jason Friel with the group Foireann Brí, after the song was selected from over 60 entries.

Having won the International competition back in 2006 with Seolfaidh me abhaile, hopes are riding high with the Donegal entourage.

Teens, children and parents from Blue Ribbon Arts will be making the trip to Carlow to support the group, who, if they win the title, will advance to the International contest in April, which will be held in Millenium Forum Derry.

Amid all the excitement, Foireann Brí held a very special evening of cabaret, song and craic in the new HOUSE Wine Bar & Tap Room, Letterkenny to launch a new CD, Anam Brí, which features a selection of celtic, folk and Irish material written by Brighdín over the years.

A track on Brighdin’s CD entitled Sometimes was also released on iTunes and is set to enter the UK and Irish charts this weekend.

Foireann Brí consists of Brighdin Carr, Harp and Strings; Jason Friel, keys; Trudy Ní Dhomhnaill, flute; and choir of vocalists ranging from age 13 to 60. The group will be playing at Kilronan Castle’s Wedding Fayre on Sunday at 4pm, en route home from the final.
