NORTH west MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher has confirmed that five beds will reopen at Dungloe Hospital within a week.

A deputation consisting of Fr Matt McInenary, Donegal County Councillors David Alcorn and Marie Therese Gallagher, Charlie ‘Yank’ Boyle, Kathleen Brennan, Pat Glackin, Frank Campbell, Pat Nora Gallagher and Pat the Cope, selected after a public meeting in Dungloe, met with HSE Management with a view to having beds reopened.

The Trade Unions IMPACT and SIPTU were represented at the public meeting and played an important role in securing this positive outcome. Arrangements for employment of staff has now been finalised and the new arrangement will be in place shortly.

Mr Gallagher said: “The reduction of beds in Dungloe from 35 to 25 was necessary to comply with Staff/Patient ratio as laid down by HIQA.

“It was a priority of the deputation to have all 10 beds reopened however in order to achieve this objective it will be necessary for the Minister to relax the embargo on employment.

“Minister McGinley has arranged a meeting with Minister Reilly and it is hoped that this will take place as soon as a mutually suitable date can be arranged.”
