Firework thrown through letterbox in Letterkenny

A FIREWORK was thrown through the letterbox of a house in Letterkenny.

Gardaí are investigating the incident, which occurred at a property on Dr McGinley Road on Sunday, October 1, sometime between 9pm and 9.30pm.

It comes as gardaí say there has been a sharp rise in the number of incidents involving fireworks being reported this year.

Sergeant Eunan Walsh said: “On Sunday, October 1 some time between 9pm and 9.30pm a firework was placed in the letterbox of the front door of a home. Fortunately the occupant was at home at the time and was able to extinguish the fire.
However, there was extensive damage to the door and the house was filled with smoke.”

Sergeant Walsh said gardaí have received more reports of fireworks this year than in previous years. He urged parents to be vigilant.
