Finn Harps Reserves withdraw from Ulster Senior League

Soccer

FINN Harps have tonight confirmed the withdrawal of the club’s reserve team from the Ulster Senior League.

Finn Harps Reserves had a difficult start to the new season and Wednesday night’s 9-0 League defeat by Bonagee United appears to have been the final straw. The team also lost 3-0 to Derry City Reserves in the League and 4-1 against Cootehill Harps in the Knockalla Caravans Cup.

“We have been informed evening by Finn Harps that they are reluctantly pulling out of our league with immediate effect,” said a statement from USL Secretary, Niall Callaghan.

“We would like to thank them for their time in the USL and wish the club all the best for the future.”

The USL is playing an interim season following the decision to revert to winter football, but the withdrawal of Harps leaves the League with just five remaining teams: Bonagee United, Cockhill Celtic, Derry City Reserves, Letterkenny Rovers and Swilly Rovers.

The interim season runs until May before the League returns to the August-May winter season, by which time League officials hope to have Drumkeen United and Fanad United – neither of whom entered the interim campaign – back in their ranks.
