€750,000 spent on repairs to council homes with DCB in Letterkenny MD

CLOSE to €750,000 has been spent carrying out essential immediate repairs to council owned social housing stock, damaged by the presence of defective concrete blocks (DCB) in the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, it has been revealed.

The cost to date on the council has been €747,086.

The details were revealed in response to a question submitted by 100% Redress Party Councillor Tomás Seán Devine who asked for a breakdown on costs.

In their response the council said some of the costs have been recouped from the Department and the remainder is subject to future recoupment, when a scheme is in place.

It was also revealed that there are currently 43 social homes vacant in the MD because of the presence of defective concrete blocks.

The council said this includes 29 where tenants were moved due to DCB, the other 14 properties became vacant because of other reasons.
