Drama in Donegal League as Kilmac docked points

Kilmacrennan Celtic’s pursuit of the Brian McCormick Sports & Leisure Premier Division title is in jeopardy after they were docked three points last night.

Gerard McGranaghan’s Kilmacrennan were on the verge of clincing the league crown, and thought they only needed to defeat Drumkeen United on Sunday to get their hands on the silverware,

However, in a fresh twist, Kilmacrennan have been penalised for fielding a player who was under suspension in their 3-2 win over Cranford on Sunday, August 9.

Cranford, who are in need of points themselves to avoid the drop to the Division One, appealed to the Donegal League Disciplinary Committee, who decided on Thursday night to award Cranford the three points.

The Donegal Junior League are not making any comment on the matter but have confirmed that both clubs have been informed of the findings.

Kilmacrennan are said to be unhappy with the situation and have the option to appeal to the Ulster FA.

If the decision stands, it will have big consequences in the Donegal League as Cappry Rovers could finish above Kilmacrennan if they win their last game on Sunday against Keadue, as could Kildrum Tigers if they are victorious in their two remaining fixtures.

It would also give Cranford a strong chance of avoiding automatic relegation.
