A DONEGAL native who lives in Australia has successfully completed a grueling 1000 kilometre run from Sydney to Melbourne.
Kevin Bonnar took part in a charity run from Sydney to Melbourne over ten days to raise vital funds for mental health charity, Holla Foundation.
The 41-year-old was born in Letterkenny University Hospital and moved to Melbourne when he was just one-year-old.
He retains his strong Donegal connection as his father Kevin is from Doochary and his mother Patricia is a native of Burtonport.
Kevin, along with three other runners and a support team, commenced running on May 18 from Bondi Beach, with the aim of completing the run over ten days, 1000km in total and 100km per day, to raise funds for the Holla Foundation, a not–for–profit mental health charity.
Kevin had been running the route in 50km relay stints per day and said the worst part was the stress before the run while he also worried about potential injuries.
However, he said he enjoyed ‘the open road, being grateful and silly each day while dancing to tunes and running at the same time.’
The group arrived in Melbourne last Saturday, however, a major celebration event was held in Melbourne on Sunday to welcome the runners home.
So far, the group raised $65,000 for the mental health charity.
The group said they wanted to complete the run to raise awareness and money for mental health.
“This is the main driving force behind our ‘why’ and we had this at the front of our mind each day we were on the road.”
