DONEGAL car dealers have reported a fantastic first half of the year as the trend of buying a new car continues to rise on a national level.

New car sales in Ireland have reached their highest levels since the economic collapse in 2008 and for one Donegal business 2014 is even looking like it will be its best year ever.

Terence Diver of Teague Diver & Sons Hyundai said 2014 will be the best year the company has ever had in its 30 years at the Letterkenny premises. “Hyundai sales in Ireland overall have been good in general, but in Donegal over the past year it has been superb; we are probably up 40 per cent compared to this time last year.

“Our orders from this time last year have also doubled and with the 142 registrations this is going to be a record year for us,” Mr Diver said.
In 2006 Diver’s sold 200 new Hyundai cars. The company has already sold more than this amount in 2014, without counting the upcoming orders for July and August.

“Hyundai has been the fastest growing brand in Ireland for the past year and a half as a great quality car, while the World Cup advertising, five-year free servicing and the lower rate finance we offer have contributed greatly to our sales,” he said.
It has also been a fantastic year so far for Volkswagen and JJ Reid Motors in Letterkenny, Sales Manager, Joe Patton said.

Mr Patton said while passenger car sales were up 35 per cent from this time last year, commercial sales were up a very impressive 40 to 45 per cent.
He said: “We also have a very strong order book for 142 so we predict that the second half of the year is also going to be good for us.”

Mr Patton said they have found at JJ Reid Motors that customers are coming into the showrooms with a very ‘positive attitude’ in recent times.

“We are offering very good finance rates at JJ Reid’s, but we have found there is also a much better atmosphere out there; people need to be in the mood for buying and they certainly are at the moment,” Mr Patton said.

Andrew Hegarty, Director of Hegarty’s Auto Services in Letterkenny said their Ford sales in this first three months of 2014 alone were more than last year’s overall sales.

“It’s been a good year for us so far and long may it continue. Nationally Ford has been leading in the commercial vehicle sales, while in passenger vehicle sales we are in third behind Volkswagen and Toyota. These three tend to switch every year.

“We are very pleased with how 2014 has gone so far and on day two the 142 registrations are already at over 100 so are very hopeful that this will be a record-breaking year for us.”
