THERE was a tight garda presence at Letterkenny District Court on Monday as two men were brought before Judge Paul Kelly charged with a serious assault which left another man in intensive care last weekend.

Heroin usage on increase in Letterkenny


HEROIN is fast taking a firm grip in Donegal. Some areas are now reporting a worrying surge in drugs of all types including serious Class A drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
With garda resources stretched there are fears the forces of law and order are not getting on top of the problem.

Troy’s a vital link with emigrants in London


JUST two years after he was elected as a Labour Councillor in London, Letterkenny man Troy Gallagher has been elected as the party’s Irish Community Liaison Officer (ICLO). Speaking to the Donegal News this week, Cllr Gallagher explained how he hopes the new role will enable him to be the first point of contact for the growing number of Irish people emigrating to England.

MARTINA Bromley has been assigned as Head of Operations to lead the Fáilte Ireland team in the North West. Martina, takes over from Paul McLoone who headed up the team since 2006 and retired this week.


Mayor hits out at plans to scrap town councils


THE Mayor of Letterkenny yesterday described plans to axe town councils as ‘a hugely retrograde step’. Cllr Gerry McMonagle, was speaking after further details emerged over radical plans by the government to abolish every town council in the country and also some county councils to save money.
