So sad to hear of the passing of Tommy Canning. Tommy was a great singer/musician and he played and sang with great feel and emotion. I had the privilege of playing music with Tommy down through the years and I will always cherish those times. Tommy was also a man who possessed amazing human qualities. I remember the times Tommy used to take his acoustic guitar into the nursing homes in Strabane to entertain the elderly residents. He used to give them such a lift with his brand of music and craic. It was such a selfless act for these sometimes forgotten people coming to the end of their lives. It was the mark of this great man.
In his younger days Tommy worked as a skilled tradesman. I remember he plastered a house in Eden Terrace for my father back in 1972. He was just brilliant at that job as well.
On a more personal note, I will always be grateful to Tommy for his wonderful kindness and support to me and my family at the time of my own mother”s death.
We will probably never see the likes of Tommy Canning again, a great man with a great spirit.

Deepest sympathy to your wife and family.
    Rest easy Tommy.
