Bonner to review 2019 season

BY RYAN FERRY

DONEGAL manager Declan Bonner says his management team will meet up in the coming weeks for a review of the 2019 season.

Donegal’s season came to a disappointing end last Saturday when they lost to Mayo, and for the second year in-a-row, they failed to make it through to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Much of the focus since the defeat has centred on Head Coach Stephen Rochford and whether he will be continue to be involved from his Mayo base in 2020.

Michael Murphy said on Wednesday that he was hopeful that Rochford would stay on.

Bonner wouldn’t be drawn on who might or might not be involved next year, but says the management team will forensically analyse the year that has been, and see where they can make improvements.

“We’ll be meeting up pretty shortly for a review of the season,” said Bonner who has now completed two seasons of a three-year term.

“We will take some time, and look at all aspects of the year, and then gear up to go at it again next year.

“We’ll be back in Division 1, and we will be going for our third Ulster title in-a-row, and obviously getting past the Super 8s hurdle will be a big target.

“We’ve failed in two attempts to make it now, and that is very disappointing.

“You can’t afford to rest on your laurels. The lads will get back into the gym, and we will be keeping a close eye on the club championship to see what’s out there, and who is performing well.”
