Art Scene: DIY Jewellery and necklace hangers

Hangers 3

HERE’S something you might not know about me – I am a complete and utter jewellery hoarder, a magpie, with a huge collection of jewellery, from hundreds of statements necklaces to bracelets, rings and god only knows how many different types of earrings.

Up until recently my collection was a shameful mess! It could take me up to a ten minute process to entangle the rat’s nest of necklaces in order to get my hands on the one I wanted to wear! I can imagine that lots of women can relate!

So, in order to tame my chaotic collection I came up with a few ideas for DIY jewellery holders.I love how all of these are made using household equipment that is usually already lying around the house and can be re-purposed in order to create a beautiful, chic jewellery holder.

No longer will your jewellery be hanging on the knobs of your closet doors or lying entangled in a dusty jewellery box. Soak up these creative solutions to necklace organisation that I’ve rounded up. Prepare to be inspired.

DIY DOOR KNOB HOLDER
This super chic and pretty necklace holder is very easy to make and I love the fact that it looks pretty hanging in your dressing room wall.

Materials needed:
Wood, paint/wallpaper and fancy door knobs

How to assemble:
1 Paint your piece of wood white to give it a shabby chic and finished look. Alternatively you could cover it in wallpaper of your choice, in keeping with the décor of your room.
2 Pencil equidistant spaces along the wood where you would like the door knobs to go.
3. Use a drill to make holes in the wood. Don’t be afraid of the drill ladies!
4. Insert the knobs screw through one end of the wood and screw on the knobs at the top.
5. Mount to the wall and hang your necklaces from the knobs keeping them organised. So chic.

DIY FRAME JEWELLERY DISPLAY
One of my favourites, the DIY frame jewellery display is not only very pretty and chic but it is so easy to assemble and you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of this yourself!

Materials needed:
An old empty photo frame
Paint
Screws/hooks
Lace /string or pretty ribbons

How to assemble:
Remove the picture from the photo frame.
Paint your frame white, again if you want to paint this is keeping with the décor and colour scheme of your room even better.
Attach screws or hooks to the back of the mirror on either side – it is very important that these are exactly opposite each other on either side of the frame.
Tie your string, lace or ribbon to the hooks/screws at the back of the frame
Drape your necklaces over the lace or ribbons to keep them organised. You can also attach long earrings to this.
