WITH the ever changing economy we find ourselves making more choices between necessity and leisure. The new handbag in the window in Topshop or petrol in the car for the week is a decision that just may require some consideration.
However, we haven’t lost our sense of style. In exchange we are propelled in to an era in fashion were trends and styles are more prominent, quirky and diverse than earlier years. We are in a period where the more eclectic the better.
If we look back to the 1940s, a favorite time period for fashion, we think of Hollywood glamour, pin -up girls and even the neatly dressed house wife. This was a time where women had limited supplies and people had to make do with what they had.
The homemade look was very popular and DIY fashion was the way to go.
So why DIY?
Now days we can have the same effect whether you are creating from scratch, altering existing pieces, mixing and matching or just being creative, you can make not only trendy looks but smart, budget friendly, one of a kind DIY fashion and that will never go out of style! I believe the self-satisfaction of successfully completing a DIY project is really all that matters, and Psychology Today’s suggestion is that making things yourself makes you value them higher. The act of making something, putting your own blood and sweat (and if we’re being honest, plenty of frustrated swearing) into a physical object, seems to imbue it with additional value above and beyond its inherent quality.
Calling all fashionistas
This week I am looking at DIY fashionable crafts. I have focused on D.I.Y fashion collars for shirts. These are on trend and you can add them to certain looks to give it an interesting twist or a more structured look.
I personally find these are great to wear under dresses and jumpers for work, they add interest and can easily revamp an old dress or top. As you can see I have attached images of DIY shirt collars ideas and tips to help give you ideas for making your own. These are fashionable and very easy to make. You can be as creative as you like and add your own personal sense of style to your design.
What you will need?
A shirt – old or new
Gems/ pearls/ buttons/ daisies/ gem stones etc (preferably choose something light) maybe you have an old necklace you could take apart and use that…best to re-use things you no longer get wear out of.
A glue gun/ craft glue
Instructions
Put a tiny bit of glue on the back of your gems/ studs etc.
Immediately place your gems directly onto the area of the shirt that you want to decorate. Hold it in place for a few seconds if using the glue gun, the craft glue will take a bit longer to dry in. It’s that easy and now it feels like you have a brand new shirt!
