Appeal for information as Doochary welcome sign damaged

A LOCAL community group is appealing for anyone with information about damage to the Doochary welcome stoneto come forward.

The sign, which was made of stone and engraved with ‘Failte An Ducharaidh’, has been completely destroyed and broken into pieces.

The well known stone was located at the entrance of the village at a picnic area overlooking a viewpoint.

The stone was erected by community volunteer Manus Elliott.

It has been suggested the stone was damaged in a collision, however, this has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Doochary Development Group said, “It would appear that there has been a vehicle collision with the village welcome stone at the top of the corkscrew.

“This was erected by Manus Elliot’s committee and it is such a shame that whoever has damaged it has not had the courtesy to report the damage .

“Anybody with any information should contact the Garda station in Dungloe as this has been reported.”
