WELCOME to my new weekly column Art Scene which will promote art and crafts and all things creative. I will be focusing on my own handmade D.I.Y art projects, local artists, exhibitions, art competitions, art in the classroom to name but a few.

I aspire to create a very broad view of the Art Scene in Donegal in order to cater for everyone’s tastes and interests. Each week will feature something different. I hope you enjoy my column and I look forward to hearing from you.

I grew up in the small picturesque village of Ramelton.I studied a BA (Hons) in fine Art painting at University of Ulster, Belfast. Shortly after I completed my Higher Diploma in Art Education at the Crawford College of Art and Design in County Cork.

I have always had a love and passion for art from a very young age. Growing up I used to spend hours at my grandfather’s kitchen table drawing from various photographs he would present me with.

This spurred on my competitive nature as well as helping to develop my imagination and drawing skills. My parents are also very creative people with a love of painting and they have always encouraged my artist nature.

As well as working as an art teacher at Magh Ene College, Donegal ETB, in Bundoran, I am a practising artist and have exhibited throughout Ireland.
My most recent exhibition is currently running in the Wandesford Quay Art Gallery with Art group 7 in Cork.

This kick-started with a very successful opening reception on Friday, January 17 and the exhibition runs until February 8.

My work was selected for an exhibition in Times Square, New York, in 2012 and was displayed on the iconic Times Square billboards.
My work has recently been featured in nation-wide magazines Ooh La La magazine and Image magazine. The aim of my art is to create art to reawaken our senses to the luxury and brilliance of a fine moment in glamour, of haute couture, to the refinement of a stunning scene.

I create art that is drenched in high fashion reverie in the unmistakable allure of cinematic moments. In my work I like to convey a narrative by providing elements for the viewer to piece together into his or her own story.
