165 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Ireland in two weeks

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has not been notified of any additional deaths from Covid-19.

In a statement this evening, they confirm no new deaths to the disease have been reported in Ireland. However there are 11 new cases confirmed.

There have been 1,746 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland and 25, 638 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

There are no new cases in Donegal. The figure stands at 468.

The HSE is working to identify any contacts patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

Over the last 14 days, the total number of confirmed cases notified to the HPSC is 165. Of these, 41 % were male and 59 % were female. The median age is 31 years old; 74 % of these cases were under 45 years of age.

Twenty counties reported new cases; Dublin 47 %, Kikdare 16 % and Wicklow 6%. 12% of these cases were travel related.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “Our research shows that 38 per cent of the population now believe the worst part of the pandemic is ahead of us. This does not have to be the case.

“Simple measures like handwashing, physical distancing, face coverings in appropriate settings, cough/sneeze etiquette and watching out for symptoms are crucial elements in suppressing Covid-19.
