The success of 100% Redress party candidate Joy Beard is one of the big stories from South Inishowen (Buncrana) with the tally figures predicting she will exceed the quota and gain election on the first count.
According to the tallies, Jack Murray of Sinn Féin will top the poll, with Beard finishing a close second.
Speaking to Highland Radio, Joy said everyone involved in the campaign is delighted with how the vote has gone with the tally figures also showing strong support for Ali Farren (Carndonagh) and Tomas Sean Devine (Letterkenny).
“We knew it had to be done to be honest, we didn’t think we were being represented on the council,” she said.
“We felt we needed a voice in there.
“So the more we get in there, the bigger voice that we are going to have. That’s been the intention all along.”
Other who look to have polled well in South Inishowen are outgoing councillors Paul Canning (Fianna Fáil) and Terry Crossan (Sinn Féin).
There are 12 candidates battling for the five seats.
