Man (26) stabbed in Letterkenny- Update

A YOUNG Letterkenny man had to undego emergency surgery after he sustained slash wounds to his stomach in a stabbing inicdent in Letterkenny on Tuesday evening.

The incident happened in the Market Square area shortly before 6pm. The 26-year-old local was rushed to the local hospital following an altercation involving a few young men.

Gardai have confirmed he underwent emergency surgery for two slash wounds to the stomach. His injuries were serious, but not life threatening.

arda Supertintendent Michael Finan confirmed gardai were investigating the incident and appealing for information from people who may have been in the area.

“We had scene of crime investigators examine the area immediately after the incident,” he said.

“It appears there was an altercation between a number of young men and this man sustained a slash wound with a stanley knife. We’ve collected evidence and appealing for witnesses’ to come forward,”

“There has been no arrests yet but a full investigation is underway,” Superintendent Finan added.

One local said the incident was very disturbing.
“It is hard to believe that we now have stabbing incidents in broad daylight in the heart of Letterkenny,” he said.
