Young Donegal fans rap praised by Kneecap star

By Róise Collins

TWO Donegal super fans have earned the praise of Kneecap’s JJ Ó Dochartaigh following their performance of a catchy Irish rap they penned ahead of this weekend’s All-Ireland final.

Lily-Mae Ní Ghallachóir (11) from Gaoth Dobhair and Béibhinn Nic Giolla Chearra (9) from Chloich Cheann Fhaola performed their rap in support of the Donegal team and local GAA star Dáire Ó’Baoill on Radio Na Gaeltachta.

Their energetic performance caught the attention of DJ Próvai.

In a video message, the Kneecap artist praised the girls, saying they are the next generation who will take the Irish language to the next levels and urged them to keep going.

Speaking to the Donegal News Lily-Mae’s auntie Marie Kearney said the girls are now “on a high” as excitement build for this weekend’s match against Kerry.

In their rap the girls pay a special tribute to their county, the thrill of match day and most of all their idol Dáire Ó Baoill.

While most girls their age might pin posters of pop stars to their bedroom walls, Lily-Mae and Béibhinn proudly display their favourite GAA player.

Over the past year as their admiration has grown so has their collection of custom-made Dáire Ó Baoill merchandise.

From blankets and cushions to homemade flags, mugs and T-shirts, the girls (with the help of Shein) have got it all.

And their dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by the man himself.

Once the excitement of the All-Ireland final settles down, Dáire has promised a special visit to meet his two biggest fans in person.

Lily-Mae Gallagher (11) and Béibhinn Carr (9).
