Young doctor critical after car crash

Gardai in Gweedore are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident which occured in the townland of Mín a’Cuing on the N56 road close to An Chuirt Hotel, at around 9.45am. The car was travelling from the Dunlewey direction towards Bunbeg crossroads.

The young man was the sole occupant of the car and he was removed to Letterkenny General in a critical condition. The road has been sealed off for technical examination.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Garda Inspector Sylive Henry said the road would remain closed until the forensic investigation was complete-probably later this evening.
“We’re appealing for witnesses to the accident. There is a full investigation underway,” he said.

It is still not known what caused the crash but the car, a Toyota Avensis, flipped over onto its roof.
“Anyone with information should contact Glenties Garda Station at 074-95-51080.
Ambulance personnel and the fire service from nearby Gweedore spent a considerable period of time at the scene.

The accident occurred on a notorious stretch of road which claimed the lives of a mother and daughter two years ago when a speeding motorist lost control of his car.
The young doctor injured in this morning’s crash is believed to be based in Dungloe.
