Young big hitters for major conference in Donegal

UP TO 150 of the brightest and most affluent young people from around Ireland and abroad are coming to Donegal for a major three-day conference.

They will be here for the prestigious Junior Chamber International (JCI) Irish National Convention which will be held in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, and in Glenveagh National Park from October 2 to 4.

JCI is a global network for young professionals and entrepreneurs and the event is seen a major coup for its Donegal branch, which was only founded in January of last year.

President of JCI Donegal, Ms Nikki Bradley, said the convention will provide an ideal opportunity for local business people to make connections with some of the most influential young people from Ireland and around the world.

She also stressed that members of the public can purchase tickets if they wish to attend any of the events which include training, debating, talks, an awards ceremony and a gala ball.

“This is a great opportunity for Donegal people, and for local businesses, to network with young people who are extremely successful in both their personal lives and in business – some of whom are very wealthy and influential. Local people are welcome to purchase tickets, enabling them to meet and do business with national and international delegates,” Ms Bradley said.

“We will also being using the entire weekend to promote Donegal as a tourist destination, as a place to do business and to showcase local food and products. That is one of the reasons we chose Glenveagh Castle and its beautiful surrounds.”

Ms Bradley also said it was not too late for local companies to link up with, and sponsor, the convention.

The convention will open in the Clanree on the Friday evening with the JCI National Friendly Business Awards.

Saturday morning will see the hosting of the JCI national council meeting at the same venue, before delegates head to Glenveagh for an action packed day.

Events at Glenveagh Castle and visitors’ centre include debating and talks as well as a food demonstration. Later that evening, there will be a gala dinner in the Clanree.

The theme for the weekend is ‘Creating Connections’ and Ms Bradley added that the convention will also be an opportunity for visiting delegates to meet members of JCI Donegal.
“We have such a young branch, so to land the 2015 National Convention is a major coup for us and the weekend will be a platform to put JCI Donegal on the map. We are not just about business, people join JCI to meet, learn and grow.
“At JCI Donegal, our members come from all walks of life. They range from university students to corporate executives, self-employed professionals and business people to employees of local, multinationals and state organisations as well as the unemployed. However, all share a common goal in terms of self improvement and contribution to society.”
