Be prepared, it’s going to be a wet week.
MET Eireann has issued ‘Status Yellow’ wind and rain warnings for Donegal tonight.
Gusts of up to 110 kph are expected to batter the county from midnight until lunchtime tomorrow, along with very heavy rain, with falls of 30 to 40 mm, and more on higher ground.
Today, the rain will be persistent at times and heavy in some areas but drier brighter conditions with sunny spells will spread from the west during the afternoon. Showers will develop along the west coast by evening.
Mild at first, with highs of 11 to 13 Celsius but dipping to between 7 and 9 by mid-afternoon.
The last of the rain is forecast to clear early on Wednesday and it will turn colder with sunshine and showers, some wintry in the north on high ground.
Thursday will start mainly dry, but wet and rather windy weather is set to develop from the west during the day.
Thursday night is looking mild again with no frost, but with further outbreaks of rain.
The unsettled weather will continue on Friday and during the weekend with episodes of mild, wet and windy weather, interspersed with colder, brighter and showery weather.
The concept behind ‘Yellow’ level weather alerts is to notify those who are at risk because of their location and/or activity, and to allow them to take preventative action.
Met Eireann points stresses that this level of alerts are for weather conditions that do not pose an immediate threat to the general population, but only to those exposed to risk “by nature of their location and/or activity.”
