WORLD Champion dancer, Edwina Guckian, is coming to West Donegal this weekend hoping to spread the Seán-nós dancing craze to the people of the Gaeltacht.
Edwina is visiting Gaoth Dobhair on the invitation of Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, whose daughter Nia got the opportunity to learn a few steps from Edwina while they were visiting friends in Boyle, Co Roscommon, and little Nia was hooked.
Mairéad said: “Edwina is a wonderful Seán Nós dancer and teacher and I am delighted that I was able to encourage her to come to the North West to give a class here in Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Dore this coming Saturday.
“Sean Nós dancing is a wonderful expressive dance and is the original old dance here in Ireland. Anyone interested in dance will be sure to enjoy this workshop.”
Hailing from Ballyvourney, Co Leitrim, Edwina has been dancing for 19 years learning all her moves from the people of Connamara where she spends a lot of her time.
She has taught her dancing all over the world and shared the stage with acts such as Cherish the Ladies, Frankie Gavin and De Danann, Seamus Begley, Martin Hayes and Dervish to name a few.
