STRUCTURAL works are to begin on the Arbatt Bridge in Cloghan in the coming weeks following a year-long closure.
The bridge, situated on a secondary link road, had to be immediately closed last February due to a partial collapse.
Donegal County Council successfully secured €70,000 from the Department of Transport for the repair of the bridge under the regional road bridge rehabilitation programme.
With Truir Construction appointed to carry out the works, Cllr Patrick McGowan stressed how much the community wants to get their bridge reopened.
“This is an important route, especially for local residents and farmers as well as those traveling to Letterkenny for work,” he said.
With work expected to begin in the next few weeks, progress will be dependent on weather conditions and the arrival of specialist equipment.
