ALMOST one million euro is to be spent on the next phase of building works at the St Conal’s Hospital campus in Letterkenny.
Scaffolding has been erected outside the medical rehabilitation unit in recent days as builders get ready to start working on upgrading the roof, windows and walls.
A spokesperson for the HSE confirmed that the work constitutes the next phase of St Conal’s Hospital fabric upgrade project.
“This is a significant piece of work which is expected to take approximately six months at an estimated cost of €850k,” she said.
Work on the project, which includes upgrading of the roof, windows and walls, got underway last week.
The existing Medical Rehab unit at St Conal’s Hospital is to be incorporated into the new €38m community hospital in Letterkenny.
Planning permission was recently granted for the new hospital, which will be constructed on a green field site at Kilmacrennan Road, will have 110 beds, with ten beds assigned for a new dementia unit.
The facility will also provide a purpose built rehabilitation centre, providing Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and allied health professional space.
