Work starts on dilapidated playground

CONTRACTORS began work on a dilapidated Letterkenny play area this week.
The ‘Sweet Factory Playground’ within Bernard McGlinchey Town Park is to see a major redevelopment and overhaul.
The works are being carried out by MAST Construction and are expected to take between six to eight weeks.
The local authority had become so concerned about the run down state of the popular play facility that it had begun to consider whether it should remain open to the public. However, rather than closing the park, the council opted to spend thousands of euros doing it up.
Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has been a driving force behind the town park redevelopment. He has welcomed the commencement of works, saying the play park will be completed in time for the longer evenings for families to enjoy.
Speaking to the Donegal News, he said: “I am delighted to see this work started and it will be ready in good time for the longer evenings and will greatly enhance the Bernard McGlinchey Park as an attraction for families and children.
“This and other developments in the park will ensure that it continues to be a major asset for the community.”
