A DONEGAL woman who was once the recipient of a civic award in recognition of her cross-community youth work has pleaded guilty to charity fraud of more than £860,000.
Wendy MacBean (61), of Railway Park, St Johnston, pleaded guilty to a series of financial offences involving Foyle Youth and Community Association (FYACA) charity totalling £862, 674 at a sitting of Derry’s Crown Court yesterday, the Belfast Telegraph reported.
At her re-arraignment before Judge Neil Rafferty KC, MacBean admitted eight charges that she had originally denied.
MacBean yesterday pleaded guilty to four charges of dishonestly making a false representation on July 23, 2018 that FYACA had received donations of £840,999 between in a 11-month period from April 2018 and March 2019.
She also pleaded guilty to four charges of transferring £21,675 from an account in the name of FYACA to an account in her own name in July, August and September 2018.
MacBean was previously bestowed with an award recognising her cross-community work in Derry.
