THE funeral took place in Buncrana yesterday of Mrs Sinead McLaughlin who suffered a fatal heart attack while swimming at Lisfannon Beach on Sunday morning.
Despite a huge attendance at the scene by emergency services and the presence of nurses and a consultant doctor, Mrs McLaughlin, who was in her forties, was pronounced dead at Letterkenny University Hospital after being brought there by the 118 Coastguard helicopter.
The alarm was raised at 10.15 am when Sinead became unwell while swimming.
Lough Swilly RNLI, ambulances, the fire service and the 118 Coastguard helicopter were all there quickly to assist when the suspected cardiac arrest happened.
The emergency crews quickly cleared the beach to allow the helicopter to land.
They transported Mrs McLaughlin to the hospital within six minutes.
A team of nurses, who were swimming and a medical consultant who was walking the beach, performed CPR until the paramedics and helicopter arrived.
Mrs McLaughlin, who lived nearby, is survived by her husband Martin and daughter Amy.
