NEIL Gallagher is the Donegal Footballer of the Year for 2014.
The Glenswilly giant will receive the award on Saturday at the annual Donegal GAA banquet at the Abbey Hotel, Donegal town.
The experienced midfielder had a towering summer in the engine room. He didn’t start in Celtic Park for the win over Derry, but his introduction helped to swing the pendulum Donegal’s way.
Gallagher rose to the occasion thereafter as Donegal reclaimed the Ulster title, defeating Monaghan in the final, before going on to reach the All-Ireland final.
Gallagher had huge games against Armagh in the All-Ireland quarter-final and against Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final and was rewarded with his second All-Star award in October.
Paul Sheridan, who was instrumental in the Donegal hurlers winning promotion into Division 2B, will be presented with the hurler of the year award and Glenfin’s Katie Herron has been named as the ladies footballer of the year, while her club, Glenfin, will get the Grounds award for their home, Pairc Taobhoige.
