Met Éireann has upgraded their wind warning to status orange for Donegal with gale force westerly winds expected this afternoon.
Issuing the severe weather warning the forecaster said: “Gale force westerly winds for a time this afternoon and evening with some severe and damaging gusts. Winds will reach storm force in coastal areas.”
The public is also being warned of downed trees, power outages and travel disruption. The orange warning is in place from 2pm (Thursday) to 8pm.
Earlier today a yellow rain warning was issued which will remain in place until 12am on Friday.
“Frequent heavy showers or longer spells of rain will lead to localised flooding today and tonight,” a Met Éireann spokesperson warned.
