JASON Wilkinson is eagerly awaiting his Donegal International Rally debut today
The young Creeslough man is an exciting prospect and he won the Junior section at the Galway Rally back in February.
Wilkinson and his co-driver Ciaran McGinley are second in the Junior ITRC standings heading into the weekend behind Kyle McDaid and Shane Maguire.
There will be more pressure on home turf but Wilkinson is looking forward to it.
“I’m getting excited now.
“It’s going to be a tight battle.
“This is my first year doing it and it’s always something that I wanted to do. This is the big one.
“The pace is going to be high so it will be a good test for us.”
Wilkinson has gradually been picking up experience over the last 12 months and has had ups and downs.
“I did the Harvest last year, and that didn’t go too great for us.
“You just have to try and learn from it.
“We have six rallies done this year which is good going.
“We had two wins and in other rallies we came second.
“We went down to Carlow a few weeks ago and that didn’t go great for us to be honest.
“We busted the gear box down there but we will get her ready again now and hopefully Sunday will go grand for us.”
The Junior section is raced over six stages today, and there won’t be much room for error.
“You have the likes of Ronan Dorrian and Kyle McDaid – there’s a fleet of boys who could take it – Jordan Jarvis as well.
“There’s only ever a few seconds between us and it will be a good day’s racing.”
